Off to Sefrou
The Ayora Foundation is once again pleased to announce that our second well project for 2022 is well underway, direction: Sefrou. As we look to wrap up the “Aourga Well project” in the coming days, Ayora and its delegates are onto the next project and currently scouting a new location, in the northern parts of Morocco, for a well functioning as the primary source of irrigation water for the Olive growers in the region of Sefrou.
According to Africa News, a report by the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the national average filling rate of Morocco’s major dams was only 29.2% until mid of July 2022, a decrease of nearly half from the same period (45.2%) in 2021, thus this is the fourth consecutive year where the country has seen rain fall below par. (Redaction Africa News, 12/08/2022). These conditions only make it even more imperative for farmers to have a dependable source of irrigation for the crops and the flourishing of the industry, which serves as the main source of income for thousands in the region. Not only does it prove true from our visits to various impoverished areas, but it is felt in our markets and industries across the board; the drought conditions in various parts of the country have rendered everyday life more difficult for agriculture and industries that depend on clean water.

Given the altitude above sea level, the remoteness of the area and the rough landscape, this project would never launch without the requests from the inhabitants of Sefrou who took the time to reach out to give insights on the unfortunate situation they find themselves in. The project’s viability and practicality in the point of view of the organization and the various stakeholders involved, such as Societe M’hamed Jilek, the main element in the localization of water sources and well digging professionals, increases our hopes and those of the inhabitants therefore placing this operation closer to reality and final fruition. It’s also worth mentioning that the folks living in the areas welcomed us in the warmest way as we had some of the sweetest interactions during our journey. The region is also one of the most panoramic seen to date in our philanthropic travels.
We owe a special thank you to our American counterpart and organization “Majmae al Keir”, especially Rachida Boukarou, for their continued support and help with our projects.
Here are some pictures and videos taken from the region. Thank you for following our news and updates:
